As we become older we start to notice that our vision is no longer what it used to be. When we near 45, we might have to strain our eyes and peer in order to read smaller texts. Or we might notice how we hold the newspaper at a further distance than before. This natural change is called presbyopia and it is caused by a stiffening of the crystalline lens. When this happens it can easily be corrected with glasses or bifocal contact lenses which help us to adjust our vision at short distance.
