Proraso Post Shave Stone
Proraso Post Shave Stone is an alum block that soothes razor burn and stops minor bleeding that can easily occur during wet shaving.
Alum is a potassium aluminium sulphate, which is a type of salt, that acts as a styptic and astringent. This alum product is in block form, a good alternative to the alum stick if you prefer to use it over larger areas. Thanks to the astringent and styptic properties of potassium aluminium sulphate, the alum block is suitable for calming the skin after shaving, even if you have avoided cuts.
However, the block is better suited for superficial cuts, while an alum stick is more effective for slightly deeper wounds.
Usage
In case of bleeding, moisten one part of the alum block and gently apply it to the wound.
The potassium sulphate has a cauterising effect on the skin, which means this step will sting. However, this is not dangerous, just completely normal.
Rinse the alum block after use, but make sure to only wet the part that touched the skin, otherwise the block may break. Wipe the block with a paper towel and then place it back in its container.
Potassium aluminium sulphate sometimes leaves a white film on the skin, which can be easily wiped off with a damp paper towel.
If you haven't cut yourself and just want to soothe the skin and reduce razor burn, moisten one part of the alum block and apply it over your freshly shaved and cleansed face. Since potassium sulphate has a cauterising effect on the skin, this will sting. However, this is not dangerous, just completely normal. Finish by washing your face with cold water to close the pores. Then apply your preferred aftershave. Wipe the block and place it back in its container.
